Opportunities with youth in our College Readiness and Career Development Programs:
Schools of Hope Tutoring
Tutors provide academic guidance including assignment completion, test preparation, study skills, and organization and time management skills in thirteen Dane County middle and high schools.
21st Century Careers Program
Help middle school students explore post-secondary options and develop a roadmap for realizing their career aspirations in this afterschool/summer program. Some examples of opportunities as an individual or company include:
Guest Speaker
Work Site Visits
Mock Interview
Special Projects
Career Awareness Internship Supervisor
Martin Luther King Holiday Youth Observances
Each year, nearly 100 volunteers help with the Urban League's MLK Events. Most volunteers assist with setting up for the Youth Recognition Breakfast or help with serving and hosting at the Breakfast. This is a great one-time family or business volunteer opportunity.
Opportunities With Adults in our Workforce and Economic Development Programs:
Computer Lab Assistant
The Urban League of Greater Madison is in need of volunteers to monitor use of computers and answer questions in our computer lab during business hours. Many of our members are still becoming familiar with computers and will need assistance in navigating websites, e-mail accounts, and computer programs such as Microsoft Word and Excel. We are willing to work around your schedule but would like volunteers to make a time commitment and volunteer at the same time each week if possible. Individuals should have a strong appreciation for diversity.
Legal Advisors
The Urban League of Greater Madison is in need of volunteers with legal training in family law, especially with single fathers, and labor and employment law to offer advice and guidance to our members with their legal issues. Willing to accommodate your schedule.
Human Resources Professionals
The Urban League of Greater Madison is in need of Human Resource professionals to assist in both resume critiquing as well as participating in mock behavioral interviews with our members. Times and dates vary.
