For over 40 years, the Urban League of Greater Madison has been helping Dane County citizens realize their employment and career goals. We offer a variety of FREE services that can help you be more successful in your career search.
Foundations ProgramAs an Urban League Program Member, you will be assigned to an experienced employment coach. Our coaches will help you assess your employment strengths, set career goals, develop a career plan, and then provide you with the support you need to put that plan into action.
Employment Skills Training: Do you need to update your resume? Do job interviews make you nervous? Are gaps in your employment history or criminal background issues causing employers to overlook your potential? Our Foundations Program can help.
Computer Skills Training: Through individualized and small group instruction in our Foundations Program, the Urban League can help you develop the computer skills necessary for almost every job in today's information technology age.
Job Placement Assistance: The Urban League of Greater Madison is an affiliate of the nation's oldest workforce development organization catering to the needs of African Americans, other people of color, and the economically disadvantaged. Through our partnerships with area employers, we have information about hundreds of job openings in the Dane County area. We can put these connections to work for you.
Other Specialized Services
The Healthcare Administrative Training Program is an intensive training program that can prepare you for administrative careers with local hospitals, clinics, and medical billing companies. Careers include Medical Receptionist, Records Clerk, Coding Specialist, and many others. Entry level positions often pay $12 per hour or more and include health insurance and other benefits. In addition to all of the services listed above, clients receive occupation-specific training for which they receive credits from Madison College. Click here to view the course outline.
The Fatherhood Program was one of Wisconsin's first comprehensive fatherhood programs designed to help non-custodial fathers find and keep living wage jobs, support their involvment with their children, and manage child support obligations.
The Allied Drive Partnership is a brand new effort to deliver employment services in a neighborhood-based setting. Residents of the Allied Dunn's Marsh Neighborhood are eligible for employment services provided by the Urban League and a number of community partners including the Madison Apprenticeship Program (MAP), the YWCA, and several other agencies.
