THE SOUTH MADISON BLACK BUSINESS HUB
The Hub is envisioned as a bustling commercial destination space in South Madison where Black and other BIPOC-owned businesses can thrive and build a legacy. Th Hub will provide an ideally situated space at the southern gateway into the City of Madison space for minority business owners to have a storefront location and be part of a robust ecosystem by and for entrepreneurs of color. The project is inspired, in part, by the successful Sherman Phoenix located in Milwaukee, WI, and its community-driven, equitable economic empowerment. The Hub will be the catalyst for a multi-phase partnership with the City of Madison to redevelop the Village on Park. The Hub is currently modeled as a 3-story, 60,000 sq. ft. building located at the corner of Park Street and Hughes place. The Hub will include a diverse mix of retail businesses, coworking spaces, and entrepreneurial support services with several large commercial anchor tenants expected to bring over 100 employees to the building. Future phases of the project envision additional commercial space as well as housing for rent and ownership. The vision for The Hub emerged after more than two years of community engagement led by multiple stakeholders and involving over 200 civic leaders, neighborhood residents, government officials, business leaders, non-profit agencies, and others.
